Our standards

We try to:

use the most precise town, neighbourhood, ward and venue name available;
distinguish Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke-upon-Trent, Fenton and Longton rather than treating them as one centre;
distinguish Stoke-on-Trent from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford, Crewe, Macclesfield, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District;
identify the exact location of Stoke station, Longport station, Bet365 Stadium, Vale Park, Royal Stoke and each pottery or museum venue;
distinguish ordinary-day travel from matchday, event and canal/visitor conditions;
check live information against official or first-party sources;
identify opinion, sponsored content, affiliate content and advertising clearly;
avoid unsupported rankings, stereotypes and claims about communities;
use first-hand experience only where it genuinely happened;
correct material errors promptly;
treat businesses, residents and contributors fairly.

We do not turn Staffordshire, The Potteries or North Staffordshire statistics into Stoke-only facts. We do not describe Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford, Trentham Estate or World of Wedgwood as the same geography as every Stoke town. We do not flatten the six towns and their neighbourhoods into one generic local area.
